Situated along the banks of the Beas River, Manali is a hill station in the state of Himachal Pradesh at an average elevation of 2,050 meters above sea level. The Valley of the Gods, Manali is a beautiful slope station with a divine atmosphere comprising of soaring peaks, the ever-roaring Beas River, singing waterfalls and an intimate, cozy Sulfur spring.

The extraordinary landscape aside, Manali also boasts of a number of adventure sports. While a number of other adventure destinations exist in India, nothing parallels the sheer variety of Manali.

1. River Rafting

River rafting in Manali is offered on the stretches of the Beas River by a number of private operators. Manali is one such place where rapids of different grades can be negotiated and you get the option to conquer the hard currents of the Beas. There’s also an option for Kayaking at Pandoh Dam.

2. Paragliding

Is there anything better than riding a warm thermal, sailing the azure sky and soaring along the majestic mountains? You can head to Marhi and Solang Nallah where paragliding is organized for the most part of the year. You can choose from short and long flights running for a duration of 1-1:30 and 30 minutes respectively.

3. Skiing

With captivating, snow clad mountains and a variety of slopes and snowy knolls you can celebrate your rendezvous with snow skiing at Solang Valley and Rohtang Pass. For beginners, there are a number of easy stretches which can be done if you hire an instructor. Advanced skiers also have the option to heliski for which prior approval from Tourism Department is required.

4. Camping

When in Manali, you can choose to camp away from the hectic city life. Straight under the lap of nature, among the thick woodlands comprising of cedar forests, there are a number of campgrounds in Manali. If you’re not comfortable venturing out alone, you can also hire local tour guides well-versed with the trails running along the mountains. Choose from the existing camps or carry your tent and equipment along.
